The Covid variants BA.4 and BA.5 are around 18 times more infectious than BA.2 and their reproduction rate is 1.2 times higher than variant BA.2 claims Japanese Virologist expert Dr. Yuhong Dong.

Dr. Dong refers to the virus that infects President Joe Biden, as BA.5 which is 18 times more Infectious compared to the Omicron fraternity variants BA.1 and BA.2 variants. Further, Dong refers to the Covid Omicron variant that spread in the initial period of 2022, BA.1, BA.2 & BA.3 variants of which BA.2 was identified as a new virus variant inheriting different characteristics.

BA.2 emerges from the BA.1 variant and both hail from the Omicron family, while BA.5 and BA.5 are successive mutations of BA.2.

The Japanese research concludes on BA.4 and BA.5 variants have effective reproductive characteristics, 1.2 times higher than BA.2. Enhanced reproductive features mean higher transmissibility potential which BA.4 & BA.5 have.

The American apex body CDC (Centers for Disease Control) opinion BA.4 and BA.5 virus variants to have already replaced BA.2.

The inference obtained from testing BA.5 variant in animals shows that this new virus isn’t a mild one as was thought to be like the Omicron variant which had a weak pathogen structure.

Dr. Dong speculates that Biden’s re-infection may be due to the vaccine shots, that decreased immune defenses against BA.5.  

The present COVID-19 vaccines are developed based on the original strain and the defense against Omicron is significantly reduced which means that the vaccine’s protection against BA.5 is even lesser. 

After a full vaccine dose and then contracting BA.1 infection, does not help layer protection against the BA.4 or BA.5 variants. The theory of getting infected again and developing enhanced immunity is a myth in the case of omicron sub-strains which exhibits high variance. 

In 2021 some medical experts opposed the administration of the third dose in young people supporting their theory that it would harm instead of strengthening immunity against the virus.
